Released On This Date--Silent Horror From Sweden

97 years ago Victor Sjöstrom's silent ghost parable and masterpiece was released in his native Sweden on New Year's Day.  The film actually takes place on New Year's Eve. It would take a further 1 1/4 years to reach theaters in the United States (4th of June 1922).  He didn't just direct the film, he also adapted it for the screen and starred in it as well. Sjöstrom, of course, would go on to export himself to Hollywood, changing his last name to Seastrom in the process.  You can check out Criterion's entry on the film Here; and check out a recent trailer manufactured for the film below.  Happy New Year!!
